What Passenger’s Want: 5-Things

by Assad on 06/09/2009

apd_1389140c Nowadays the world is getting advanced day by day. People are travelling a lot, either within their own country or abroad for business and domestic issues, and time is of the essence. Now in 21st century, people are more advanced than ever before. So for traveling they require something fast which can take them to their destination in less time. In the present world the only means of fast transportation is the aeroplane, so it is a goodbye call for the ship industry and road travel.

Airlines have come up with new, fast and safe aircrafts for the passengers to travel in. But still passengers need more and more comfort and protocol when they travel by air, especially when they are paying a lot of money for international flights. After going through the research and interviews, here are the top 5 in-flight commodities that a passenger in the 21st century requires while traveling by air.

1. CELL PHONES

Nobody can live without his or her mobile phone. It’s an addiction, it’s a way of passing time, especially useful in long journeys for chatting throughout the flight and most of all texting. During flight the cell phones are made to be switched off as they interfere with the airplane’s system. Also, as the plane takes off, the signals go dead after crossing 1000ft.

OnAir

Solution for this…it’s on its way. Many companies have come up with new technologies for providing in-flight mobile service. Among them is a company "OnAir" which provides in-flight communications and the first airline to use it was Air France. Similarly, Air Blue is also fitting its plane with OnAir equipment as Pakistan is one of the biggest telecom sectors and people here are very much addicted to their mobile phones.

2. SAFETY

Nobody wants to die in a plane crash. For many years, fear of flight has prevailed in people’s hearts; they consider air travel a threat to their lives and think of it as unsafe. But they are unaware that annually more people die in road accidents than in air accidents.

To reduce this fear, airlines have started buying latest and state of the art aircrafts which include Boeing 777 and the Airbus A-330 and A-340. These aircrafts are well equipped to handle emergency issues and also made from powerful engines which never provide a chance for failure. Many airlines have carried out awareness programs in order to remove the fear.

3. FOOD

Everyone’s hungry and need something to eat. Paying a lot of money for a single ticket is not easy, so passengers expect something good from the airline and this especially includes in-flight food service. During long flights everyone definitely feels hungry and nobody wants a single packet of chips along with some drinks being thrown at them, it’s a disgrace to you when you’re paying money and what you get are CHIPS!

For this majority of airlines have come up with a standard quality food service not only for the first and the business class but also for the economy class. Qatar Airways is one of the few five star airlines providing lavish food. Emirates and Eithad also provide high standard food service but unfortunately they are ranked 4 star.

4. IN TIME FOR ARRIVAL

Nobody wants to arrive late at their destination when they are paying thousands of dollars. Passengers, especially the business people, are always moving here and there and attending meetings. So they want something which can take them in a jiffy. Aeroplanes are the solution, but flight delays are a big problem; they ruin everything even the airlines reputation.

Many airlines are now buying big planes in order to reduce congestion by large amounts of small planes, and also recruiting more ground crew in order to raise the efficiency level. Emirates and Singapore Airlines are buying the big jets like the A380 in order to carry more passengers and to reduce the amount of small jets which carry less people but occupy more space at the airport.

5. IN-FLIGHT COMFORT

This is one of the big issues where passengers do not compromise. Passengers always book their seats by reviewing the comfort level of various airlines especially when traveling abroad or flying for 13 hours non-stop and it is here where most of the airlines get their incomes down. Very few people can afford to buy a first class or business class ticket. The majority travels on economy, and if you have crampy seats nobody will want to travel on your plane.

5 star airlines like Qatar Airways have installed seats which provide full comfort and also have increased leg spacing for passengers to stretch their legs. There are even specific areas on aircrafts where you can have a little walk during long hauls.
