Andromeda: X-Ray View

by Assad on 19/09/2009

Andromeda-by-Swift Andromeda a.k.a M31 is nearly 2.5 million light-years away and is headed for our galaxy. It’s a very interesting object and scientists are continuously observing it. NASA’s Swift spacecraft, designed to locate exploding stars, recently took a very amazing picture in it’s X-Ray mode of Andromeda Galaxy. Between May 25 and July 26, 2008, Swift’s Ultraviolet/Optical Telescope (UVOT) acquired 330 images of M31 at wavelengths of 192.8, 224.6, and 260 nanometres.

Below is the image of Andromeda seen from a telescope. This is how actually the galaxy looks like.
